Proposal for Zakat holders health insurance under consideration

The Ministry of Zakat and Ushr is considering a proposal of health insurance aimed at providing all necessary medical care to deserving and destitute people at their door-step.

The Takaful Pakistan Limited, an Islamic Insurance Company has recently offered its services to Ministry of Zakat and Ushr in health insurance sector, official sources told here.

A two-member delegation of the company had visited the Ministry and apprised the concerned officials about its working and Micro Takaful (Insurance) for Zakat and Ushr holders.

Under the insurance policy, deserving people would be able to get better medical treatment from the hospitals of their choice by showing health cards, they said.

The non-profit scheme was to be tabled before the Central Zakat Council for further deliberation, while the Council of Islamic Ideological was also being consulted whether the Zakat fund could be invested in any scheme or not.

The ministry has launched unprecedented welfare projects for well-being of the needy throughout the country, the sources said adding that an official website carrying details of all projects has been launched.

The Central Zakat Council has recently approved funds amounting Rs.50 million for quake-affected people of Balochistan, Rs.25 million for the FATAs internally displaced persons and Rs.25 million for deserving people of NWFP.
