Leasing : The Golden Rule of Business

Thinking of the many benefits of leasing and the advantages it has over using your capital reserves to acquire equipment assets, I am reminded of a story. I would like to share this story with you.

There once was a successful business man, who like all successful business men, wanted to become even more successful. After much consideration he came up with a solid plan. He went to his bank and withdrew a large sum of money from his modest capital reserves, and then purchased a plane. The idea was to utilize the plane to take his most valuable clients for fishing trips. He could use these trips to "wine & dine" his customers and solicit new business. The perfect plan.

On his first trip he gathered up 10 of his best, and most profitable clients, then boarded them on the plane. Halfway to their destination they hit a huge and powerful storm. Lightning was everywhere. The plane was struck and went down. All ten of the clients were lost and the plane was destroyed, but he survived. All he had invested was lost.

"Oh well he thought, it is still a good idea", he would try again, but no more planes, this time he would buy a boat. Again, he made the trip to the bank and withdrew his funds. He purchased a beautiful passenger boat, planned a trip and then invited 20 of his remaining valued clients. On the day of the trip all his clients arrived, they boarded the boat and headed out to sea. Half way to their destination a storm arrived, tossed the boat, and eventually it sank. All 20 of his clients were lost at sea, and the boat was gone.

Now he was broke, had lost all of his valued clients and business was bad. His wife was so angry she filed for divorce and took half of what he had left with her.

The moral of the story, follow the golden rule of business: "If it flies, floats, or fornicates, LEASE IT!"
