How to choose an attorney

Throughout my legal career, it has been my experience that people spend more time choosing their hairdresser then they do choosing an attorney. Few people would open up a yellow pages and choose the doctor with the biggest ad, but for some reason they do so for attorneys. The importance an attorney plays in a person’s life, rivals that of their doctor. A doctor may provide a health check-up, we provide a legal check-up.

It is important for any potential client to spend the time necessary to make sure that they are choosing an attorney that is right for their legal situation and one that they can build a relationship with. I would highly recommend the following advice to anyone in the process of choosing an attorney.

1. Do your research. Ask you friends and colleagues for referrals. If you are using the internet for your search, make sure you go to a reputable site. One that screens the attorneys involved, and does not just let anyone in for a fee.

2. Ask questions. An attorney may offer a free initial consultation to find out more about your case. TCM Natural Therapy Use this time to interview the attorney. Make sure that you are both on the same page and can build up a trusting relationship. Remember, the attorney works for you.

3. Ask for references. Any good and reputable attorney will have no problem giving out the names and telephone numbers of some of his/her clients. Call the clients and ask pertinent questions. They are your best source of information.

4. Cheapest is not necessarily the best. While we all have to stay within our financial means, make certain that you do not choose an attorney simply because they are the cheapest. Be smart and diligent in your search. Choosing the proper attorney may be a time consuming task, but it is something that should not be taken lightly. Ask questions, be informed.
